All About HSEE 2022

Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination or HSEE are a national level entrance test conducted by IIT Madras every year. The exam conducted is for admissions to Masters Programme that is MA Development Studies and MA English. In 2021, the exam was postponed multiple times due to COVID. However, it is expected that the exam notification will release anytime in December.
The five-year integrated programmes offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences are multi-disciplinary in nature and offer studies in diverse subjects. Candidates seeking admission to the Master's Programme at IIT Madras will have to appear for the entrance examination. Both of the programmes offer a total intake capacity of 58 seats. Upon clearing the exam with a qualifying score, students will have to attend HSEE counselling.

HSEE 2022 – Eligibility Criteria
Before filling the application form for HSEE, candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria for HSEE 2022. Candidates, who fail to prove their eligibility, will stand ineligible for admissions as well as their application will be cancelled.

HSEE Eligibility Criteria – Academic Qualification
  • Candidate must have passed 10+2 from any education board including State Boards, CBSE and ICSE, which are recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Must have passed an Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Board Examination conducted by boards or University recognized by AIU.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities.
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • Class XII skill courses of CBSE.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
HSEE Eligibility Criteria – Minimum Marks
  • Candidates belonging to the General, GEN-EWS, and OBC-NCL category must secure a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD categories must secure a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Where only letter grades are mentioned in the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of joining. In case the candidate does not provide such a certificate, the decision of the HSEE admission committee regarding his/her eligibility shall be final.
HSEE Eligibility Criteria – Age Requirements
  • Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1997, are eligible for HSEE-2022.
  • However, in the case of SC, ST, and PwD candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e., candidates belonging to SC, ST, and PwD and born on or after October 01, 1992, are eligible.
  • The date of birth as recorded in the High School (10th std. /12th std.) first Board/ Pre-University Certificate will be taken as authentic.
  • Candidates must produce a scanned copy of this certificate along with the completed Application Form as proof of their age and at the time of admission original certificate has to be produced failing which they will be disqualified.
HSEE 2022 Application Form
IIT Madras will release the HSEE 2022 Application Form on the official website. The registration process to fill in the application will be done in three stages –registration, filling of the application form, and payment of fees.
Stage 1: Registration
Step 1 – Online HSEE Registration
  • Visit the official website
  • Click on the ‘Register Yourself’ Tab
  • Enter your email ID and mobile number for registration
  • After entering your details, you will receive confirmation mail and message mentioning the HSEE 2022registration number and password.
Stage 2: Filling of Application Form

  • After you have completed the registration process, visit the official website.
  • Click on ‘Fill HSEE Application Form’
  • Enter your registration number and password.

Candidates should provide their name as recorded in their Class 10th Mark sheet/certificate. Fill in the name in capital letters and give space between first, middle and last name.
Name of Parents/Guardian
Candidate should mention the name of parents/guardian as mentioned in Class 10th Passing Certificate/Mark sheet.
Category
Candidates must choose their respective category from the drop down menu.
Person with Disability
Candidates who have 40% impairment either visual or locomotors, will considered under PwD Category.

The scanned image of the photograph should be in the Jpeg/JPG format of size between 14kb and 40 kb. The dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height).

The scanned image of the signature should be in jpg/jpeg format of size between 10kb and 30kb. The dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (length) x 1.5 (height)

Stage 3: Application Fees Payment
Step 4 – Paying the HSEE Application Fee
The institute has given the facility to the candidates to make payment for the HSEE fees in both online and offline mode. For online mode, candidates can pay via Credit Card/Debit Card/Net banking etc. For offline mode, Candidates can pay using the Indian Bank e-challan. Besides, the service charges of the bank will be charged, which are Rs. 40.

Step 5 – Form Submission
Once you have completed the payment and filled your application form, continue to submit the HSEE 2022 application form. However, candidate must check their forms and all the details that they have mentioned in their application form. As once you submit your form, you will not be allowed to make any changes. Before form submission, please check your details properly.
HSEE Admit Card 2022
The HSEE Admit Card will be released by the institute in online mode on the official website. When the admit card will be available for download, candidate must enter their registration/user ID and password in the login window. The HSEE 2022 Admit Card will contain all the details such as-

  • Details about the Course Applied
  • Venue and location of the Exam Centre
  • Time and Date of the examination
Candidates are requested to carry multiple copies of their admit card, in case they lose one. However, candidates must go through the HSEE 2022 Admit Card for any mistakes. In case of errors/discrepancies, candidates must inform the chairman immediately via phone/fax/email with their admit card and errors that need to be corrected.

  • Enter you user ID and password
  • Click on ‘Login’
  • The HSEE Admit Card will be displayed and you can download the admit card.
  • You can take multiple copies of Admit Card in case of any circumstances.
HSEE Exam Centre 2022
The institute has allotted 16 states and/or cities as HSEE Exam Centre across India. For examination, candidates must select 2 HSEE Exam Centres as per their convenience and preference. The details about the exam centre will be available on HSEE 2022Admit Card. Candidates must reach the exam centre an hour before the commencement of the exam and there should be no delay.

HSEE 2022 Exam Pattern
Before appearing for the examination, it is important that candidates must know about the Exam Pattern of HSEE 2022. The candidate must thoroughly go through the exam pattern to get an idea about the exam duration, marking scheme, level of difficulty, and types of questions. This will help the candidates to strategize their practice and work on topics that they need to work on. Candidates must follow the below-mentioned Exam pattern-
  • HSEE Exam will be conducted in two parts – Part I and Part II
  • HSEE Exam will be conducted for a time duration of 3 hours. Part I will be held in an online mode for 150 minutes. Part II will be conducted for 30 minutes in an online and offline mode.
  • Part I of the question paper will consist of MCQs from – English and Comprehension Skills, Analytical and Quantitative Ability, Environment and Ecology, and General Studies. Part II of the exam will evaluate candidates based on their writing skills, where candidates will have to write an essay on a given general topic.

HSEE Question Papers
Candidates who will be appearing for the HSEE 2022 Exam must practice Previous Year Question Papers, which will be available online. When a candidate goes through the previous year’s question papers, they get to practice the questions and get confidence to appear in the real exam. HSEE Result 2022
After the exam is conducted, the institute will announce the result for HSEE 2022. The merit list is released on the website where the names of the candidates who have passed the exam will be mentioned. Re-grading and Re-totalling in HSEE 2022
Part I of HSEE is conducted in Online Mode, for which the institute will not accept any request for re-grading and re-totalling. However, the Part II of the exam, which is Essay Writing, the grading is done in an impersonal and confidential manner, which is checked by the invigilator multiple times. However, there will be no re-totalling and re-grading, as candidates will not be able to see their answer scripts. Thus, the institute will not accept any requests for re-grading or re-totalling, as the right to evaluate is in the hands of the evaluators only.
HSEE Merit List 2022
Candidates seeking admission in one of the courses offered by the institute must score a qualifying score equal to or more than the marks mentioned in the Cut-off. Selected candidates will be mentioned in the merit list based on their scores, which is more than the marks mentioned in HSEE Cut-Off 2022. HSEE 2022 Counselling and Seat Allotment
Selected candidates who will be mentioned in the Merit List will be called for HSEE 2022 counselling, which is mandatory for them to attend. The counselling of HSEE conducted by IIT Madras includes the verification of candidate’s documents and payment of semester fees. Once the eligibility and documents provided by the candidates are verified, the seat will be allocated to the student. To get admission, it is mandatory for the candidates to show all the required documents for verification and failure to which will lead to disqualification from the admission process.

HSEE 2022 Reservation Criteria
The conducting body reserves a few seats for the candidates who belong to special categories. The reservation list is prepared by the institute based on the rules and regulations of the government.
