IPM 2020 Analysis

One of the most prestigious undergraduate programs in the country, Integrated Program in Management (IPM) is a five year course conducted by Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore. Every year IIM, Indore conducts its national level aptitude test in the month of May but this year it was conducted on 7th Sep 20. The test is followed by Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The candidates have to clear the overall and sectional cut offs to progress to these rounds.

The online IPM- Aptitude Test (AT) 2020 was 90 minutes test comprising 50 objective& 10 short answer type questions from the following three sections:
Quantitative Ability (SA)
Quantitative Ability (MCQ)
Verbal Ability (MCQ)
The paper had 4 marks for every correct answer and -1 mark for each incorrect answer in MCQ. However there was no negative marking in SA questions. This year, the sectional timing was 30 minutes for each section.

Section I: Quantitative Ability (SA)
Evaluation: This section contained 10 short answer type questions. The level of difficulty of this section was moderate. There was no negative marking. The time allotted for this section was 30 minutes.

Section II: Quantitative Ability (MCQ)
Evaluation: The level of difficulty of this section was moderate to difficult.  This section was dominated by questions on data-interpretation, probability, & algebra. There were 5 questions on Data interpretation. The questions were moderate to difficult and required application of understanding of the data while solving the questions. This time like previous year, questions based on number system trigonometry & matrices were a there. There was a negative marking of 1 mark and the time allotted for this section was 30 minutes.

Section III: Verbal Ability (MCQ)
Evaluation: The level of difficulty of this section was easy to moderate. A total of 30 questions were to be attempted in 30 mins. The section was dominated by RC, grammar & vocabulary. Overall, it was not a difficult section and all the 30 questions could have easily been attempted in the time frame of 30 minutes. An attempt of 24-27 questions is fairly good with 80 percent accuracy.

This year the expected good score will be in the range of  152 -160. However as mentioned the students must clear the sectional cut-off.
All the candidates who clear the cut- offs become eligible to appear in the next round, i.e. Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI). The scores are not officially released by IIM Indore, but, they generate a list of short-listed candidates and also send emails to the selected candidates regarding WAT-PI dates.
