IPMAT Preparation 2027

Aspirants of IPMAT Preparation 2027 need to prepare for the Quantitative Ability (Maths) and Verbal Ability (English) sections. Quantitative Ability covers basic maths up to Class 10, as well as Functions, Matrices, and Probability from Classes 11 and 12. Reading comprehension (RC), grammar, vocabulary and sentence correction form the Verbal Ability Section. IIM Rohtak also includes Logical Reasoning.
IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak are both computer-based tests. IPMAT Indore includes both multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Type-In-The-Answer (TITA) questions, while IPMAT Rohtak consists only of MCQs. Both award +4 marks for each correct answer and deduct 1 mark for each wrong answer. However, IIM Indore has an additional Short Answer section in Quantitative Ability that has no negative marking. Candidates who clear the cut-off are called for a personal interview by the respective IIM, where communication skills, clarity of thought, and overall profile are evaluated.
IPMAT is the entrance exam for the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Indore, IIM Rohtak, and various other B-schools across India. It allows students to join an IIM directly after Class 12, without first completing a bachelor’s degree. IIM Indore pioneered the IPM programme in 2011. IIM Rohtak followed suit by launching the programme in 2019.

IPMAT 2027 Exam Pattern: Indore vs Rohtak
One of the first steps that aspirants preparing well for IPMAT 2027 should take is to get an understanding of the exam pattern. The structure differs between IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak, so your preparation plan should match the exam you are targeting.
IPMAT Indore Exam Pattern
IPMAT Indore has three sections with strict sectional time limits. Candidates are not allowed to move between sections once the time for one section has expired, and each section is to be completed in 40 minutes.

Important points for preparation:
  • Candidates have to attempt the sections in a fixed order set by IIM Indore.
  • Each correct answer earns 4 marks, while each wrong answer deducts 1 mark. Unattempted questions carry no penalty.
  • The Short Answer section has no negative marking, so accuracy and calculation speed become very important.
  • Sectional performance matters. A strong overall score may not be enough if one section is weak.
IPMAT Rohtak Exam Pattern
IPMAT Rohtak is a single 120-minute test with three equal sections. Timing is generally more flexible compared to Indore.

Important points for preparation:
  • There is a full Logical Reasoning section, which is not present in the Indore paper.
  • All questions are multiple-choice.
  • Time management across the three sections is flexible, but balanced attempts usually give better results.
How the Pattern Impacts Your Preparation
The precise pattern helps candidates to manage study time. They will take mocks under real conditions during your IPMAT Preparation 2027. There are 90 questions to be solved in 120 minutes for IIM Indore IPMAT, and the average time per question is more than IIM Rohtak IPMAT. Here is how preparation would differ for the IPMATs of both institutes.
  • Students aspiring to IIM Indore need to focus more on the Short Answer Question section of QA and practice under strict sectional time limit of 40 minutes.
  • Students aspiring to IIM Rohtak should practice Logical Reasoning along with Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability on a regular basis.
  • Many students take both tests. In that case, building strong Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability covers the common ground, while adding Logical Reasoning improves readiness for IIM Rohtak IPMAT.
Syllabus for IPMAT 2027
The syllabus is largely based on Class 9–12 concepts. High priority topics include:
  • Quantitative Ability: Arithmetic (Percentages, Profit & Loss, Ratio, Time-Speed-Distance, Time & Work, Averages, SI/CI), Algebra (Equations, Inequalities, Logarithms), Number System, Geometry & Mensuration, and Modern Math (Permutations & Combinations, Probability, Sets).
  • Verbal Ability: Reading Comprehension, grammar (error spotting and sentence correction), vocabulary in context, and para-jumbles.
  • Logical Reasoning (mainly for IIM Rohtak IPMAT): Seating arrangements, puzzles, coding-decoding, blood relations, and critical reasoning.
IPMAT Preparation Strategy 2027: Step by Step
A structured approach works better than random practice. Here is a practical plan for students starting now:
  1. Foundation Phase (First 2–3 months)
Clear basic concepts from NCERT textbooks. Solve topic-wise questions without strict time pressure. Build accuracy above 75–80 per cent on standard questions.
  2. Practice Phase (Next 2 months)
Introduce timed practice. Complete sectional tests regularly. Maintain an error log and classify mistakes as conceptual, careless, or time-related.
  3. Mock and Revision Phase (Final 2–3 months)
Take full-length mocks under exam conditions. Analyse every mock for at least as long as you spent attempting it. Focus on weak topics and speed improvement. Avoid starting entirely new topics in the last month.
Daily study of two to three focused hours is usually more effective than irregular long sessions, especially while managing Class 12 board preparation.

IPMAT Preparation 2027 FAQs
Q. How many months are enough to prepare for IPMAT if I’m starting from scratch?
A. Candidates with six to eight months of consistent preparation are usually enough if you follow a proper plan. In the first 4–6 months, focus on building concepts and practicing topic-wise questions. In the last 1–2 months, shift to previous year papers and full-length mocks under timed conditions.
Q. How should I start IPMAT preparation from zero?
A. Candidates starting from zero should first check the syllabus and exam pattern of IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak. They should begin with NCERT Class 9–11 Mathematics for Quant basics and start reading editorials daily for Verbal Ability. Once the basics are clear, they can move to practice books and previous year papers. Self-study is enough if candidates follow a consistent plan.
Q. Which books are best for Quantitative Ability, Verbal Ability, and Logical Reasoning?
A. These are some of the most important books recommended by Hitbullseye mentors.
  • Quant: NCERT + R.S. Aggarwal + R.D. Sharma (for higher topics)
  • Verbal: Word Power Made Easy + Wren & Martin + regular reading
  • Logical Reasoning (mainly for Rohtak): R.S. Aggarwal Reasoning
Q. How can I prepare for IPMAT along with Class 12 boards?
A. Candidates can prepare for IPMAT along with Class 12 boards by making a clear plan based on both exam dates. Most topics in Quantitative Ability are from Class 10, while some higher topics come from Classes 11 and 12. Candidates should revise Class 9–10 NCERT Mathematics alongside their board preparation and continue light reading for Verbal Ability. Full IPMAT focus can resume immediately after the board exams.
Q. How to improve speed and accuracy in Quant for IPMAT?
A. Candidates can improve their speed and accuracy in Quant by practicing arithmetic topics daily and focusing on their calculation speed. They should solve previous year IPMAT questions under timed conditions and analyse every mistake. Regular revision of weak topics and taking sectional tests help in building both speed and accuracy.
Q. How is preparation different for IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak?
A. Candidates preparing for IPMAT Indore should focus more on higher mathematics topics such as Functions, Matrices, and Probability, along with the Short Answer section, which has no negative marking. Candidates targeting IPMAT Rohtak need to prepare for Logical Reasoning in addition to Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability, as the exam is more speed-based and does not have a Short Answer section.
