SAT Eligibility Criteria

SAT or Scholastic Assessment Test is a standardised test conducted by the College Board. This test ensures student's admission to top colleges and universities to pursue undergraduate studies in the US, Canada, and India. Every year more than 2 million international aspirants participate in the test to get a chance to study abroad. Many schools and colleges accept SAT scores in India, and some even offer SAT scholarships to the students.
SAT is a pen and paper-based test. SAT is a three-hour test conducted seven times annually in the US and five times a year internationally.
There are no specified eligibility requirements for SAT given by the College Board. However, they have listed a few policies and requirements that the candidate must adhere to before applying for SAT.
SAT Eligibility Criteria: Important Points
  • No minimum or maximum age limit is set for the candidates. Anyone can attempt the exam. However, the registration guidelines are different for different age groups –
    - Candidates of age 12 or younger applying for SAT must know that they have to register through mail only.
    - Candidates of 13 and above are eligible to create their free College Board account for SAT registrations.
    - Candidates of age 21 and above must provide official government-issued photo identity –Aadhar Card (for Indian Students), Passport, or driving license to the test centre.
  • SAT scores are widely accepted in foreign countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, and the UK.
  • Candidates can attempt SAT as many times as they want.
  • Sunday testing is not available in India.
Candidates will not be allowed to take the test if-
  • The first name or the candidate's last name on the admission ticket doesn't match the information on the official photo ID.
  • The photo doesn't match the photo requirements.
  • Registration changes submitted after deadline.
  • Test cancellation before test day.
SAT Eligibility Criteria for Students with Disability
The College Board has specified certain guidelines for students with disabilities to provide them with the chance to study abroad. SAT conducting body makes sure that every student can attempt the exam with additional facilities provided by them. If there are students with disabilities, they need to contact the College Board to inform them about their disability at the time of registration. The authorities would be able to provide the facilities accordingly. Once the resources are approved, the aspiring candidate can sit for SAT General and SAT Subject Test. Requests for extra convenience at the time of the exam will not be taken into consideration.

Educational Requirement for appearing in SAT
The College Board sets no specific criterion in terms of educational eligibility. Any student who wishes to pursue undergraduate courses abroad, majorly in the US, can take the prestigious test. SAT examination only tests reading, writing, language, mathematical skills, and college readiness. However, candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria of the colleges they are looking for admissions to.
Mainly, students apply for SAT after 11th or 12th class examinations as this is the right time to pursue undergraduate courses. However, there is no age limit for attempting the test. The majority of students who sit for SAT are 17-19 years old. Candidates of age 12 and younger can also try the exam to be acquainted with exam patterns, difficulty level, and types of questions.
