What is CLAT?
The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an annual national level entrance test for admission to various law programs right after Class 12th. The undergraduate entrance test admits candidates in the 5-year integrated course of law. A rotative responsibility of National Law Universities (NLUs), CLAT is typically held in December (tentative until confirmed).

What is the CLAT 2028 Exam Pattern?

What is the CLAT 2028 Syllabus?
NLUs do not officially detail their entrance exam syllabus right before the exam. However, the Consortium of NLUs have listed broad themes of the syllabus to help candidates get an overview of each section. Please note that all these sections (apart from quantitative techniques) are likely to include passages of 450 words followed by a set of questions to test the abilities of the students. Please refer the pointers below for more details:
- English Language: Topics range from contemporary, historically significant fiction and non-fiction writing. The candidate will be asked to draw inferences and conclusions based on the passage, summarise the passage, understand the meaning of various words and phrases in the context that they are used in the passage.
- Current Affairs including General Knowledge: Topics are typically from news, journalistic sources, arts and culture, international affairs of the past one year.
- Legal Reasoning: The passages may relate to fact situations, legal scenarios, public policy questions or moral philosophical enquiries. The candidate will be expected to answer questions in relation to rules, principles, their understanding and application to various fact based situations.
- Logical Reasoning: The questions will further expect students to answer questions based on identifying arguments, patterns of reasoning, assessing conclusions, consequences,drawing inferences, analogies and identifying contradictions.
- Quantitative Techniques: This section particularly will include short sets of facts, propositions or other textual representations of numerical information. Candidates will be expected to answer questions based on various Class 10 mathematical operations like ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation.
What is the CLAT 2028 Eligibility Criteria?
In order to appear for CLAT 2028, it is mandatory that the applicants must have completed their Class 12 examination or equivalent. Additionally, the minimum percentage required for General, OBC and Specially Abled is 45%. Further, the minimum percentage is reduced to 40% for SC and ST category. There is no age limit to appear for the exam.
Please note that candidates who are scheduled to appear for Class 12 examination in March and/or April 2028 are also eligible to apply. However, it is mandatory that they provide proof of passing the exam (with minimum criteria) at the time of admission.

What is the CLAT 2028 Application Process?
Individuals aspiring to appear for CLAT 2028 need to complete a detailed application process. The process is completely online. To apply for CLAT 2028 (once the application forms are made available) carefully follow the steps listed below:
- Direct Yourself to the Registration Process: Go to the official CLAT website (consortiumofnlus.ac.in.) and fill in your personal details. Then validate the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and set your password.
- Filling Out the Application Form: Now, log into the website portal using your registered details. First, fill out the important and required details including caste category, personal and educational history. Secondly, upload the documents as required (list is mentioned below). Make sure to select the top three center preferences carefully.
- Payment Completion: Pay the required application fee amounting to INR 4000 for General, OBC, PWD, NRI, PIO and OCI. Additionally, SC, ST and EWS will be required to pay 3500 INR in order to appear for CLAT 2028.

How to Download the CLAT 2028 Admit Card?
The CLAT 2028 Admit Card has historically been released by NLUs almost 15 days prior to the exam date. Once made available, the admit card can easily be downloaded from the official website by following the listed process:
- Log into the official website using your previously registered credentials.
- Once you are successfully logged in, click on the ‘Download Admit Card’ button located at the top right corner of the screen.
- Save the downloaded PDF in your device and print a couple of copies to take on the day of examination.
- Read the Admit Card carefully as it will hold your exam date, time and allotted test centre.
Please note, it is mandatory that you carry the Admit Card on the day of exam.
CLAT 2028 Test Centres
CLAT is known to be held in more than 89 test centres across India. Please make sure you select your preferred city carefully while filling the application form. The candidate will be able to choose their top three preferred centres. However, once assigned on an Admit Card, the exam centre can not be altered. CLAT 2028 Participating NLUs
After the written exam, applicants are evaluated based on their CLAT score and subsequently invited for the counselling round by the institutes they selected in the online form. - Understand the Exam Pattern: As mentioned, the CLAT entrance test consists of five sections that could be confusing if not understood properly. Thus, it is important to fully acquaint yourself with the CLAT exam pattern, marking scheme and syllabus before proceeding to the next stage.
- Outline a Realistic Study Plan: It is important to form a study plan according to the window available to you. Divide your syllabus according to daily, weekly and monthly to-do lists. Make sure to curate a plan respective to the topic’s required capacity and then keep a track to evaluate your progress.
