What is SLAT 2028?
As mentioned above, the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Symbiosis International (Deemed University) flagship. The entrance exam is unique for admission to its own five-year integrated B.A./B.B.A./B.Com. LL.B. undergraduate program, which students can join right after completing Class 12. As of now, Symbiosis International offers its UG law program across four branches in India, namely Pune, which is its flagship campus, followed by Noida, Nagpur, and Hyderabad.
The entrance exam is conducted twice every year in December, with a gap of a couple of weeks between the attempts. The candidate can choose to appear for one of the released dates or both of them. The result with the higher score will be considered for final percentile calculation and admission. The official website further states that there will be no normalization.
Additionally, please note that SLAT holds a unique testing criterion, which is independent of their rules and regulations. The conducting agency’s selection process includes a computer-based entrance test, followed by an online personal interaction (PI) process. The written test is worth 60 minutes and is divided into five sections. Following this step, the PI process is online and is aimed at testing the candidate’s inclination towards law as a career, their overall personality, communication skills, co-curricular interests, and elementary knowledge of the law of a candidate.
Please note that the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) was previously known as the Symbiosis Entrance Test - Law (SET-Law). The name was changed in 2018 to accommodate ease of understanding.
What is the SLAT 2028 Exam Pattern?
As mentioned above, the SLAT 2028 Exam Pattern is expected to be same as last year. It consists of a computer-based examination (CBT) of 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) that need to be attempted under a time limit of 60 minutes. These 60 questions are divided amongst five sections, namely, Logical Reasoning, Legal Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, and General Knowledge. As per the marking scheme, each correct answer carries 1 mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers and unattempted questions. For more details on the sectional division and weightage, refer to the table below:

What is the SLAT 2028 Syllabus?
Symbiosis International University does not publish a detailed topic-wise syllabus for SLAT. The topics listed below have been compiled after carefully observing the type of questions and patterns from the previous years’ SLAT official examination:
  • Logical Reasoning section has been set to test a candidate’s ability to identify patterns and, based on the same, an expectation to draw logical conclusions. Common topics include blood relations, directions and distances, coding-decoding, number and letter series, syllogisms, analogies, statements and assumptions, statements and conclusions, and critical reasoning questions involving strengthening or weakening of arguments.
  • Legal Reasoning section in the entrance exam has been drafted to see how a candidate applies legal principles, knowledge, and understanding to statement questions or caselets. Common topics include basic concepts from the Indian Constitution, Law of Contracts, Law of Torts, Law of Crimes, legal maxims, and general legal awareness.
  • Analytical Reasoning section, as the name suggests, has been added to the entrance exam to test a candidate’s ability to analyze a particular situation and/or a mathematical situation. Therefore, as noticed in the past years, the common topics include number series, percentages, ratios and proportions, averages, time and work, time, speed and distance, data interpretation from tables or charts, and basic arithmetic reasoning.
  • Reading Comprehension section has remained traditional and pretty straightforward since previous year rounds, meaning the entrance exam holds short passages, followed by questions that are aimed at testing the candidate’s comprehension, inference, main idea, tone of the author, and vocabulary in context. Therefore, to prepare well for this section, it is important that you build a habit of reading articles and short passages to improve speed, accuracy, and time management skills.
  • General Knowledge section holds questions drawn from current happenings in and around the country, along with a segment dedicated to static general knowledge. To ace this section, it is important to know facts and figures about national and international events, government schemes, awards, sports, appointments, basic Indian polity, history and geography, and recent legal developments.

What is the Selection Process for Symbiosis Law Schools?
As mentioned above, the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) has been designed to hold two stages of the selection process:
  • The first stage is a 60-minute Computer-Based Test (CBT). The entrance test is divided into five sections, which are aimed at testing a candidate’s overall knowledge and understanding of various subjects. Further, the entrance exam also tries to challenge the candidate’s ability to perform smartly under a restricted timeline. Based on this score, the candidate is further called for the next round.
  • The second stage includes the Personal Interaction/Interview (PI) with an experienced panel. This step has been set to test a candidate’s communication and comprehension skills.
Based on these two steps, a final merit list is prepared, which is usually an amalgamation of stage one and two. Further, as mentioned above, the SLAT CBT is conducted twice; candidates can choose to appear for both the windows; however, the test with the higher score will be considered. There will be no normalization in these scores, and the registration fee is expected to be paid separately.

SLAT 2028 Preparation Strategy & Tips
Like any other entrance exam, preparation for the Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) requires a proper timetable and a disciplined routine. Our mentors at Hitbullseye recommend that the aspirants start their preparation at least 8-12 months ahead of time, followed by sticking to the plan. The aspirant can take inspiration from the following tips and strategy to ideate a working plan in order to crack the SLAT entrance exam:
  • The entrance exam has five sections and no negative marking. Both factors have positive and negative impacts; therefore, it is important to prepare yourself accordingly.
  • First, start by noticing the time you have left before the day of the entrance exam, then divide it according to the time you have left; ideally, you should have three divided time periods. The first would be for strengthening your basics; the second would be for practicing mock tests and rectifying errors to perform better; and the last would be to appear for the full-length and previous year papers to acquaint yourself with the exam day experience.
  • Now, in order to focus on the first section, start by reading your basics and gaining knowledge to strengthen the topics and aspects required to practice questions.
  • Once the basics have been strengthened. Start by slowly applying your learnings to the sectional mock tests and practice questions. Use this timeframe to understand your strengths and weaknesses, followed by applying the same to a working strategy unique to you.
  • Lastly, during the final couple of months, focus only on attempting full-length mock tests and previous year practice papers. Stimulate the exam environment and do full-length sittings to build stamina.
  • It is also important to note that reading newspapers to learn about current affairs and working on improving your vocabulary should be non-negotiable throughout your preparation timeline.
