UCEED, Notification, Eligibility, and Syllabus

IIT Bombay conducts an entrance exam for design on behalf of its four institutes. UCEED is an abbreviation for Undergraduate Common Entrance for Design. It is a national-level exam that is conducted online. The candidates qualifying for the exam are eligible for the four-year bachelor’s degree in Design (B.Des). The UCEED entrance exam is open to all nations. Till 2016 IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IITDM Jabalpur participated in the B.Des course. But later in 2017 IIIT, Delhi (Indraprastha Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi) also joined the pool. The scores of UCEED are valid for only one year. An aspirant is permitted to appear just twice for the UCEED entrance. 
UCEED 2022 Notification and Important Dates
The notification for filling the form of UCEED 2022 has been released by the exam conducting authority, and the exam will be conducted on 23 January 2022. The table for important dates is given herein.

UCEED Eligibility
For UCEED, the candidates of the general and OBC categories should be born after October 01, 1997. For the SC/ST and PwD category, the age limit is relaxed by five years. The candidates should be born on or after 01 October 1992.
The candidates must have qualified 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized university. Candidates with results awaiting the status of 10+2 exams are also eligible to appear in the exam.    
Candidates who qualify for the exam and are from the non-medical stream are eligible for admission to IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IITDM Jabalpur. The candidates from any other stream are eligible for access to IIT Bombay and IITDM Jabalpur only.
UCEED Syllabus
IIT Bombay has given six topics from which the questions will be asked for the 2022 entrance exams. Here is the syllabus for UCEED 2022.
Visualisation and spatial ability
Pictorial and diagrammatic questions to test, understanding of transformation and/or manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships, knowledge of practical and everyday mechanical and scientific concepts.
Observation and design sensitivity
Ability to detect concealed properties in ordinary things, people, situations, and events, and think critically about them. Applying attention to specific details, analyzing, reasoning, classifying, inferring and predicting. Ability to discern subtle differences in visual properties and aesthetic outcomes.
Environmental and social awareness
General awareness of environmental factors such as climate, population, water, vegetation, pollution, weather, natural resources, etc., and their implications on the design of products, images, infrastructure and environment. Awareness of social and cultural connection with the design, history of the designed artifact, and socially responsible and environmentally sustainable design responses. History of art, sculpture and literature.
Analytical and logical reasoning
Ability to look at information, be it qualitative or quantitative, and discern patterns within the information. Ability to weigh opinions, arguments or solutions against appropriate criteria. Ability to check for hidden bias or hidden assumptions and whether evidence and argument support conclusions. Ability to use logic and structured thinking to deduce from a short passage, which of a number of statements is the most accurate response to a posed question. Data Interpretation, brainteasers, and patterns.
Language and creativity
Ability to understand and use Standard English. Reading comprehension, knowledge of English grammar. Ability to think creatively in terms of alternatives, ability to distinguish innovative options and think out of the box.
Design thinking and problem solving
Ability to use visual analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols. Ability to understand complexity, identify the problem, generate alternatives, evaluate options and select solutions.
