The All India Entrance Test, commonly abbreviated as AILET, is an annually held national entrance exam conducted by the National Law University (NLU), Delhi. The entrance exam is unique for admission to the law programs at NLU Delhi solely because the institute does not accept the CLAT score. The entrance exam offers admission to its B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), and LL.M. programmes for UG and PG aspirants, respectively.
As of now, the official dates for AILET 2028 have not been released. However, after noticing the previous year's trends and patterns, the entrance exam is expected to be conducted sometime in the second week of December 2027. More details about the important dates and if any changes in the exam pattern and syllabus will be confirmed via NLU Delhi’s official website.
Further, AILET traditionally tests their candidates on three major areas, including English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, and Logical Reasoning. The entrance exam is two hours long, is conducted in pen-and-paper mode, and consists of 150 questions in total.

What is the AILET 2028 Syllabus?
The National Law University of Delhi does not release a detailed topic-wise syllabus for its aspirants; however, the following points compile the most important and common topics based on previous years' analysis that the students can refer to and gain knowledge on:
English Language
The English Language section in AILET holds common topics to test candidates’ comprehension skills, grammar and vocabulary. Apart from the traditional concept of including reading comprehensions, the most common topics include passage-based comprehension with inference questions, synonyms and antonyms, idioms and phrases, sentence correction, para-jumbles, fill-in-the-blanks and error spotting.
Current Affairs and General Knowledge
The Current Affairs and General Knowledge topics test the student’s knowledge and awareness of national and international events. The common topics in these matters include government schemes, important appointments, awards, sports, science and technology developments, and basic economic concepts. Further, a good fraction of the questions are also dedicated towards the legal awareness and constitutional developments since there is no separate legal section dedicated to the AILET entrance exam. To note the above factors and prepare well for them, it is important that the aspirant religiously studies the expected material for at least six to eight months.
Logical Reasoning
The Logical Reasoning section is said to be the most important section in the AILET entrance exam since it holds the maximum weight in the entire sectional division. Individuals aspiring to prepare for this section are expected to build proficiency in critical reasoning questions, including test assumptions, conclusions, strengthening and weakening of arguments, and inferences. Further, analytical reasoning expects understanding on arrangements, ranking, puzzles, blood relations, coding-decoding, syllogisms, direction sense and series.

AILET 2028 Preparation Strategy & Tips
Like any other entrance exam, preparation for the All India Law Entrance Exam (AILET) requires a proper timetable and a disciplined routine. Our mentors at Hitbullseye recommend that the aspirants start their preparation atleast 6-8 months ahead of time, followed by sticking to the plan. The following tips and strategy will help you ideate a working plan in order to crack the AILET entrance exam:
  • Although the entrance exam has three sections, preparing for AILET still requires proficiency in all aspects that are expected from a prospective law student. Therefore, it is important that you plan well.
  • Next, start by noticing the time you have left before the day of the entrance exam, then divide it according to the time you have left; ideally, you should have three divided time periods. The first would be for strengthening your basics; the second would be for practising mock tests and rectifying errors to perform better; and the last would be to appear for the full-length and previous year papers to acquaint yourself with the exam day experience.
  • Now, in order to focus on the first section, start by reading your basics and gaining knowledge to strengthen the topics and aspects required to practice questions.
  • Once the basics have been strengthened. Start by slowly applying your learnings to the sectional mock tests and practice questions. Use this timeframe to understand your strengths and weaknesses, followed by applying the same to a working strategy unique to you.
  • Lastly, during the final couple of months, focus only on attempting full-length mock tests and previous year practice papers. Stimulate the exam environment and do full-length sittings to build stamina.
  • It is also important to note that reading newspapers to learn about current affairs and working on improving your vocabulary should be non-negotiable throughout your preparation timeline.
AILET 2028 Sectionwise Preparation Tips & Strategy
Use the following tips and tricks when preparing for the respective section in order to perform optimally in all the AILET sections:
  • English Language: In this section, reading speed and time management is very essential to perform optimally. It is recommended that you practice reading the newspaper daily to build speed as well as learn new words and phrases. Gradually, work on learning how to skim through big chunks of text to point out the important points. Lastly, keep in mind that regular revision will help you learn to make inferences from the context of a paragraph.
  • Current Affairs and General Knowledge: Building proficiency in this section is a work of a disciplined routine. Consume information regarding trending and important news events and global happenings to understand the context and be more aware. Keep a separate notebook to write down a brief summary of the current affairs learnt and revisit them regularly to remember the facts and figures. Next, static general knowledge topics such as Indian Polity, Economics and Historical events should be learnt from standard sources, books and should be revised regularly.
  • Logical Reasoning: Since this section carries the maximum weightage, it can significantly affect your overall AILET score. Therefore, it is important to learn the right skills and build proficiency in this section. To do so, you are advised to focus on practicing more and more questions to build your accuracy, speed, and time management skills.
Remember, the entire entrance exam carries negative marking; therefore, it is important to learn how to balance and attempt accurately rather than focusing on more and more attempts. If this skill is not learned, negative marking can highly impact the overall score of your AILET exam.
AILET 2028 Counselling Process
The AILET 2028 counselling process will be conducted after the results are announced by the National Law University of Delhi. The process is completely online and generally follows the steps below:
  • After the scores are released, the candidates are invited category-wise in a group of 3. These three candidates fight for one seat.
  • The invitations are sent via email and/or SMS. The same is shown on the candidate login dashboard for transparency and confirmation purposes.
  • The invited candidates are required to register online and pay the counselling fee before the mentioned deadline.
The counselling fee is ₹30,000 for the general category and ₹20,000 for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD categories.
