Suggestions & Tips for AILET:

We have come up with some suggestions and tips for a concrete preparation strategy to help you score well in this section of AILET:

1. Know the Basics well:

Reasoning questions from areas like coding, directions, blood relations, syllogisms, etc. can be easily solved if you know the basics of these topics and identify the correct pattern. You can easily solve 30-32 questions from this section, once you are thorough with a clear understanding of concepts. Let us see a couple of questions from actual AILET exam:

Q.1 In a certain code '4 6 1' means 'where are you ' . '1 6 9' means 'you are good' and '8 6 5 2' means 'flower are not bad'. Then what is the code of 'good'?
  1. 4
  2. 1
  3. 6
  4. 6 or 1
  5. 9
Sol:  Here, the codes are given as 461 ? where are you ----(i) 169 ? you are good -----(ii)

The common codes are "6 & 1" and the common words are "are & you". This implies that one of those stands for 'are' and the other one stands for 'you'. The left code in the second sentence is '9' and the word left is 'good'. So that concludes the code for the word 'good' is '9'.

Learning:

In this kind of question always compare the common words and common codes. Then one by one the codes are found for all the common words or letters and then the remaining codes are assigned to the remaining words/letters. This is always done logically to get the correct answer.

Q.2  Each question has a main statement, followed by four statements labelled I, II, III and IV. Choose the ordered pair of statements, where the first statement implies the second, and the two statements are logically consistent with the main statement.

Whenever Vijay reads late into the night, his grand-father reprimands him.

  1. His grandfather does not reprimand Vijay.
  2. Vijay reads late into the night.
  3. Vijay reads early in the morning.
  4. Vijay's grandfather reprimands him in the morning.
  1. III, IV
  2. II, IV
  3. I, II
  4. none of the above
Sol: The logic applicable in this question is that of cause and effect. "Vijay reading late into the night" is the cause and "his grand-father reprimanding him" is the effect. In this case, the conclusion would be valid in the following two cases.
  1. If the cause happens, then the effect would definitely happen.
  2. If the effect is not there, then the cause is definitely not there.

Based on this, if you analyze the options, you will see that the second option will be the answer. As the cause is there, then the effect would definitely be there.

Learning

These kinds of questions are based on connectives. There are two-three types of connectives statements possible.

  1. Cause and effect type
  2. x only if y
  3. either x or y.
You should solve the questions based on each of these types of connectives to gain expertise in the topic.
