MH-CET Law Eligibility Criteria

The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, conducts MH-CET Law to admit students to the top law colleges in Maharashtra for undergraduate courses in Law (latest exam information: 3-year LLB on April 1–2, 2026 and 5-year LLB on May 8, 2026). To appear for MH-CET Law, students must meet the required eligibility criteria. Having proper knowledge about the MH-CET Law eligibility criteria is essential before filling out the application form. However, if the candidate is found ineligible at any stage, their candidature will be rejected immediately.

MH-CET (Law) Eligibility Criteria
  • To apply for the exam, the candidate should be an Indian citizen.
  • There is no upper age limit for appearing for the exam.
  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 with an aggregate of 45% marks for the general category and 40% for the SC/ST category from a recognized board or university (relaxation to 42% for OBC/SEBC/EWS Maharashtra domicile in both 5-year and 3-year programmes).
  • Candidates must meet the minimum aggregate criteria for MAH-CET Law.
  • Students appearing for their 10+2 examinations can also apply for the MAH-CET Law.
  • Even candidates who completed their senior secondary or high school or obtained a first-degree certificate through correspondence or distance education are also eligible to apply for the MAH-CET Law examination. Yet the candidate must provide evidence that they have already obtained the basic qualifications (9th or 10th) before obtaining the minimum required academic qualification.

MH-CET Law: Reservation Criteria
Every law college in Maharashtra follows common reservation criteria as prescribed by the State Common Entrance Test Cell. But candidates must know that only those in Maharashtra will benefit from the reservation. Candidates applying from other states than Maharashtra must apply under the General Category.
The following criteria for the reservation will apply to the candidates.
  • 10% of seats are reserved laterally for candidates from all over the country in all Government/Government-aided/Government-aided minority institutions/University departments/courses.
  • 85% of seats are laterally reserved for students from Maharashtra in all Government/Government-aided/Government-aided minority institutions/University department courses.
  • 5% of seats are reserved under the NRI/OCI/PIO quota for foreign nationals or Indian candidates with foreign nationality in all Government/Government-aided/Government-aided minority institutions/University department courses.
  • There is no minority quota in unaided institutes, and 65% of seats are reserved for students from Maharashtra.
  • In unaided minority institutes, 51% of seats are reserved for minority candidates.
  • 20% of seats are reserved for NRI/OCI/PIO/foreign candidates in all unaided institutes. This includes a 5% quota for NRI/OCI/PIO/foreign candidates.
