Mass Communication covers many domains such as news reporting and editing, film production and direction, public relations, event management, advertising, corporate communication, print media and much more.

As a field of education, journalism is a challenging subject to study. Initially, the jobs may not be very high paying other than a few exceptions. But after some time, the perks of being a journalist are very high. They are not only popular representatives of the societies, but are also their mouth-piece and take the grievances and demands of the public to the government. The media houses carry the laws, rules, and mandates of the government to the common mass. The job demands confidence, knowledge of the domain, and the ability to utilize the freedom of speech and expression aptly.

Eligibility Criteria for Journalism and Mass Communication
Journalism and Mass Communication certainly demands passion in a candidate for pursuing the course. The course is offered at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The various courses that one can pursue at an undergraduate level are:
  1. BJMC (Bachelor of Journalism & Mass Communication)
  2. BJ (Bachelor of Journalism)
  3. BMC (Bachelor of Mass Communication)
Similarly, at the post-graduate level, these are the courses one can pursue:-
  1. MJMC (Master of Journalism & Mass Communication)
  2. MJ (Master of Journalism)
  3. MMC (Master of Mass Communication)
  4. PG Diploma in Mass Communication
Here are the eligibility criteria for doing a course in media at different levels:-
UG Courses: The candidates should have cleared Class 12 in any stream from a recognised board with the minimum required percentage (50% - 60%) as decided by a university/ college. Those students who have appeared in the Class 12 exam are also eligible to appear in the entrance exam but have to deposit their documents after the declaration of their results for the admission.  Eligibility criteria of some universities/ colleges also demand the aspirants to be of minimum 17 years in age at the time of admissions.  
PG Courses: The candidates should have cleared the graduation exam in any stream from a recognised university with the minimum required percentage (50% - 60%) as decided by a university/ college. The students who have their graduation final year results awaited are also eligible to appear in the entrance for PG course in media studies. Some universities/ colleges also require candidates to be minimum 21 years or more in age at the time of admissions for the PG programmes.  
There may be various levels of tests and rounds that a candidate has to undergo for admissions to a media course. It is purely subjected to the selection procedure which varies from institute to institute. Most colleges keep 80-85% weightage of the written exam and other 15-20% for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
