The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2027 registration process began on August 3, 2026, and the entrance test is officially scheduled for December 06, 2026. Now, if not before, it is the time to realize that you need to shortlist your preferred National Law University (NLU) for counselling later.
For the unversed, CLAT is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of NLUs for admission to Undergraduate and Postgraduate law programs. Held annually, CLAT is accepted by 26 NLUs, as well as by government and private institutes. CLAT is a two-hour exam divided into four sections, namely, Current Affairs & General Knowledge; English Language; Logical Reasoning; Quantitative Techniques; and Legal Reasoning. Further, the entrance exam is conducted in pen and paper mode.
Please note that the last date to submit the CLAT application form, including the non-refundable application fee, is October 31, 2026.

CLAT 2027 Sectional Division
CLAT 2027 is divided into five sections, namely, English Language, Current Affairs & General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques, and Logical Reasoning. The sections further carry weightage as follows:

Regardless of the section you attempt, the CLAT Marking Scheme remains uniform across the entrance exam. Each correct answer is rewarded with a +1 mark, whereas each incorrect answer lets you lose -0.25 marks. Further, if you decide to skip attempting the question altogether, 0 marks will be marked against the question. Furthermore, all the participating CLAT colleges have the same entrance test sectional division and exam pattern, regardless of the NLU you are aiming to target.
