Latest Update: Consortium of NLUs has released the notification for CLAT 2025. The application dates are live & the last date to register for the exam will be 15th October 2024.
The exam is set to be conducted on 1 December, 2024 (2:00-4:00 PM)
CLAT, or Common Law Admission Test, is the main exam for admission to 22 National Law Universities(NLUs). These universities conduct the exam rotationally. However, since 2019, the Consortium of NLUs has organised the exam. The duty of conducting the exam is distributed and rotated  among NLUs according to seniority in the establishment. 
CLAT Legal Reasoning section carries 35-39 questions in the exam and is designed to test the candidate's interest in the study of law. It evaluates the candidate's legal acumen and legal affairs knowledge to the highest level. It includes Legal G.K.  and current affairs, International treaties and conventions affecting national legal framework, intellectual property law, Important supreme court judgments, Important and recent acts and amendments of the legislature, and Important topics from Contract law, Criminal law, tort law, and Constitutional law, Family Law, General legal principles etc.
In the CLAT GK section, there are approximately  35-40 questions on static knowledge and current affairs. It mostly consists of the Current Events based on Awards, Books, Government Policies, Act Changes, etc. + Static GK (General Studies),  contemporary events of significance from India and the world, arts and Culture, international affairs, historical events of continuing significance. The Legal reasoning and G.K.+ Current Affairs sections of the CLAT Exam carry 25% weightage of marks each.
