AILET Eligibility for BA LLB
  • For eligibility in the AILET 2025-2026, aspirants should have passed the Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2) or Equivalent examination with 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities).
  • The AILET aspirants who will be appearing in the 12th standard examination will also be eligible to apply.
  • There is no upper age limit for the candidates applying for AILET and seeking admission in BA LLB. 
AILET Eligibility for Foreign Nationals
Candidates who are not citizens of the United States or hold OCI/PIO status are also required to apply online using the same site. In the next section, you will find the qualifying requirements for overseas applicants to apply for the AILET.
To be eligible for AILET eligibility in the foreign nationals category in 2025-2026 –
  • To be eligible, students must have earned a 65% in the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination.
  • To get admission, foreign citizens are not obliged to take the admissions exam. The other criteria for admission eligibility will be the same as those for all other candidates, excluding any exceptions.
  • Candidates who meet the OCI/PIO requirements will be given the option of applying under either the Foreign National Category or the Indian Student Category, depending on their nationality.
  • Applicants who apply under the Indian National category and are citizens or permanent residents of another country or territory must appear for the AILET test with other students.

AILET Eligibility for LLM
  • A candidate should have passed the LL.B or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability category).
  • Candidates appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility of such candidates shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date, which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result, and in case such a candidate is placed in a compartment in the year of admission, they will be treated as ineligible.
  • The admission for Foreign Nationals shall be made based on: a) Academic record of LL.B. or equivalent degree recognized by the UGC/ Association of Indian Universities with not less than 55% marks or the equivalent grade. b) Assessment of necessary communication skills in written and spoken English and performance at the interview in terms of aptitude and capacity.

AILET Eligibility for Ph.D.
Ph.D. Degree in Law
  • A Master's degree in Law or a professional degree equivalent to the Master’s degree in Law with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale
  • Or
  • A degree in law and Master’s Degree in social sciences or humanities from any recognised educational institution, Indian or a foreign educational institution accredited as per UGC Regulations, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale. For the above two categories, a relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section) candidates and other categories of candidates, as per the decisions of the UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The eligibility marks of 55% and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
  • Or
  • Degree in law and passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India
  • Or
  • Degree in law and passed the final examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India shall be eligible for admission to the programme
  • Or
  • Judge of any State High Court in India with three years’ experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India.
Ph.D. Degree in Social Sciences viz., Political Science, Sociology, Criminology, Economics & English
  • Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in relevant Social Sciences or humanities from any recognised educational institution, Indian or a foreign institution accredited as per UGC Regulations, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).
  • A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-Abled/Economically Weaker Section) candidates and other categories of candidates, as per the decisions of the UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991. The basic eligibility for BA LLB (Hons.) for NLU Delhi is that candidate should have passed class 10+2 or an equivalent exam and securing an aggregate not less than 45% of the total marks (42% in case of OBC's and 40% for SC/ST/Person with Disability). The Eligibility criteria for admission of students under the Foreign Nationals Category shall be 65% marks in class 10+2.
