MH CET (Law) 2018 Analysis and Expected Cut-Off

The MH-CET (Law) is conducted by the Directorate of Higher Education every year for admission to the UG programs offered by the law colleges in Maharashtra. There are around 153 colleges participating in this exam with limited seats in every college. The exam is mostly conducted in the last week of April. Based on the score obtained in the entrance exam, candidates secure a seat in the participating law colleges. The examination is conducted through online mode and the language of the question paper is English/ Marathi. The MH CET Law 2018 was comparatively easier as compared to the paper of 2017. 

This section was formulated with the aim of checking the concepts of students from the point of view of the Indian Contract Act and Criminal Law. The question paper consisted of questions from Contract Law, Partnership Act and Criminal Law. Out of 40 questions, 21 questions were from Contract Law, a few from Partnership Act and 8 questions from Criminal Law. However, the rest were from various other topics pertaining to law. Most of the questions were principle-factual based questions and could be easily handled by a student who has practiced well. No questions were covered from Legal GK or Legal Maxims. The exam paper was completely dominated by Contract Law.

This section was fairly easy as opposed to the stereotypical notion of GK section being a tough one! The section mostly comprised of current affairs covering all aspects, with very less questions based on static GK. However, a majority of questions in this section were from Current Affairs. There were questions on Cartosat-2 launch by ISRO, 36th National Games, first transgender appointed in police, Vajra Prahar joint military exercise etc.

Compared to the previous year paper, it can be safely said that this section was difficult in the 2018 question paper. The section had questions from various topics such as syllogisms, direction test, arrangements, blood relations and inequalities but the section was majorly dominated by analytical reasoning. It had questions from both logical as well as verbal reasoning. This section was categorized as difficult because there were questions from mathematical inequality-based puzzles which were time-consuming.

It will be safe to say that the English section was easy just like the exam of 2017, compared to other sections. There were all types of questions such as fill in the blanks, reading comprehension in which the passage was based on Labour Laws in China comprising of ten questions, spelling correction vocabulary based, phrase replacement, Para-jumbled words, etc. 

This section was the shortest of all section having just ten questions which were of moderate level. It had questions mostly from arithmetic such as data sufficiency, Speed & Distance (Trains, Boats & Stream), average, simple interest and compound interest, profit and loss, average, time and work, etc. There were some questions on Data Sufficiency.
