The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) 2027 consists of 5 sections: English, General Knowledge, Legal Aptitude, Reasoning, and Elementary Mathematics. AILET is a speed-based test, where candidates must answer 150 questions within 90 minutes.
The Legal Aptitude section carries a weightage of 35 marks and is extremely important, as aspirants have limited prior exposure to this section. Hence, having a strategy to score well in this section is crucial for effective preparation.
The first step in this direction should be to get an idea about the kind of questions that appeared in the Legal Aptitude section of AILET 2027:

Note that the paper setters for AILET 2027 may or may not follow this distribution strictly. In the previous years, there was a complete miss of questions from the Indian Penal Code. The Principle-Fact questions were lengthy and required application of multiple aspects of knowledge. Most questions were related to the Indian Constitution and Current Legal GK. Legal GK questions often covered proposed amendments, case laws, and legal developments, some of which were tricky. A good score in this section is expected to range between 25-27.
Here are some tips on how to prepare and attempt each type of question:
Legal Reasoning: This section tests a student's ability to apply a legal principle to a factual situation. It focuses more on logical reasoning than on testing specific legal knowledge. Here’s an example question from a previous AILET exam:
Legal Principle: Article 19(1)(d) of the Constitution of India guarantees all citizens the right to move freely throughout the territory of India. However, Article 19(5) allows the State to impose reasonable restrictions in the interest of the general public.
Factual Situation: Wearing a helmet is made compulsory for all two-wheeler riders by law. A petition is filed claiming this violates Article 19(1)(d). Will the petition succeed?
Decision:
- Yes, the restriction is unreasonable as it does not protect any public interest.
- No, the restriction is reasonable as it aims to protect public safety.
- Yes, the law cannot infringe upon fundamental rights unless constitutional amendments are made.
- No, the law does not violate the freedom of movement as per Article 19(5).
Answer: (b)
Important pointers to remember while attempting these questions:
- Do not make assumptions.
- Always consider the principle as correct.
- Apply the principle strictly to the given facts.
- Pick the option that aligns most closely with the principle.
Legal Facts:
This section tests direct law-based questions. The areas of focus are Constitutional Law, including the Preamble, Fundamental Rights, and Duties. A deep understanding of landmark judgments and constitutional amendments will help immensely. For example, a question from Legal Facts in AILET 2017:
Q. In Youth Bar Association v. Union of India, the Supreme Court ordered FIRs to be uploaded within how many hours on the police website?
- 48
- 12
- 24
- 48-72
Answer: (c)
To answer these questions accurately, make sure to revise the following:
- Important Articles of the Indian Constitution.
- Amendments to the Constitution.
- Landmark Judgments of the Supreme Court.
- Law Commission Recommendations & Chairpersons.
Legal G.K:
For accuracy in answering Legal GK questions, regularly read newspapers to stay updated on recent judgments and new laws. Here is an example question:
Q. Which country was the first to allow voting through mobile phones?

Answer: (a)
While attempting these questions, the following steps may help:
- Select one newspaper for regular reading.
- Identify the relevant columns to read thoroughly.
