Law National Aptitude Test (LNAT) is a standardized test to assess key skills required for law study. Originally used for undergraduate law admissions in the UK LNAT is now accepted by Indian institutions like OP Jindal Global University for law admissions starting 2025-26. This development marks a significant step in aligning Indian legal education with international standards.
What is LNAT?
LNAT is a specialized test used by several prestigious universities in the UK to evaluate candidates for UG law courses. Unlike conventional examinations LNAT does not test legal knowledge. Instead it focuses on assessing skills like critical thinking, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension—skills essential for success in legal education.
Starting from the academic year 2025-26 Jindal Global Law School (JGLS) in India has made LNAT a mandatory requirement for admission. This move signifies the first instance of an Indian law school adopting LNAT as part of its selection process.
