CLAT 2017 Notification

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2017 will be conducted by Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna on the 14th of May, 2017. The application procedure will commence from 1st January 2017. CLAT 2017 will be conducted online at approximately 66 centers. The CLAT 2017 scores will be accepted by 18 National Law universities. Aspirants are advised to visit www.clat.ac.in for further information relating to CLAT 2017 admissions and counseling.

The popularity of CLAT has increased consistently ever since its inception. The participation of National Law Universities increased from 16 in 2015 to 17 NLUs in 2016, as Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai also participated. Aspirants are admitted to the participating institutes on the system of merit-cum-preference to the under-graduate and post graduate courses.

CLAT 2017: Age Limit

In conformity with the judgement of the Supreme Court dated 17.09.2016 the Core Committee CLAT 2017 has restored the upper age limit for CLAT 2017 as follows:

The candidates to be eligible to appear in CLAT 2017

I. Should be below Twenty (20) years of age as on 1st July, 2017 for candidates belonging to unreserved categories.

II. Should be below Twenty Two (22) years of age as on 1st July, 2017 for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/ Specially Abled Persons (SAP/PWD) categories.

Eligibility for Undergraduate Programs:

A candidate should have passed 10+2 or an equivalent exam with the following percentage:
a. 45% marks for candidates belonging to the Unreserved/OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category.

b. 40% marks for the candidates belonging to the SC/ST category.
Any candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 10+2 in the months of April/May 2017 can also appear for this examination. However, they should be able to produce sufficient evidence to prove that they have passed 10+2 at the time of admission.

Eligibility for Postgraduate Programs:

LL.B. or equivalent degree in law examination with a minimum of 55% marks in case of Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories and 50% marks in case of SC/ST category.
Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2017 are also eligible for appearing in the CLAT-2017 examination. However, they shall be required to produce evidence of their passing the qualifying examination in the respective National Law Universities at the time of admission.

*No upper age limit has been prescribed for CLAT.

Registration Procedure: CLAT 2017

Application form for CLAT-2017 shall be filled online at www.clat.ac.in
The candidates are first required to register themselves by creating a LOGIN account using an email ID.
The candidate can fill up the required details in the form and save the same before finally submitting it. However, no form submitted after 31st March, 2017 shall be considered for application.
The candidate is also required to fill his preference order for all eighteen NLUs at the time of application only. No change shall be allowed in the preference order after the form is submitted by the candidate.
The candidates must upload the self-attested scanned copies of the relevant certificates at the suitable places in the online application form. Any hard copies of the filled in Online Application form or other supporting documents need not be sent to the CLAT office.

Admission Procedure: CLAT 2017

Admission is done on the basis of merit cum preference basis, which means that admissions into the participating institutes will be made on the basis of CLAT score of an aspirant and the preferences made by him/her.
The CLAT office shall proceed in order of the following steps to admit students after the result has been declared:
1. First Indicative List will be published on the basis of merit cum preference. It will be available on the official website.

2. A specified number of students belonging to different categories will be allowed to participate in the counseling. The counseling fee will tentatively be Rs. 50,000/- Failing the payment of this fee the name of the candidates shall be dropped from the merit list.

3. Publication of the second list followed by the third list allotting seats to the candidates.
In case the waitlisted candidates decide to withdraw from the process after the payment of counseling fee, a sum of Rs. 10.000/- (tentatively) shall be deducted. However this withdrawal must be made within the time period fixed for the same, else the entire amount of Rs. 50,000/- shall be forfeited.
